ABOUT ME
My background
Hello and welcome to Rayon! My name is Bethan Saltmer and I'm the Founder and Lead Translator, Editor and Proofreader of Rayon Translations Ltd.
I graduated with a BA in French and Italian from the University of Birmingham and an MA in Audiovisual Translation with distinction from the University of Leeds.

After spending a few years working for a large translation firm in London, I departed in 2019 to form Rayon Translations Ltd .
What I do
I now work exclusively on a freelance basis, doing what I love and building a strong client base for which I enjoy taking on fun and challenging projects. I have both in-house and freelance experience in a variety of genres: specialist-facing medical material, legal material, transcreation (marketing) and subtitling. I have a particular interest in transcreation and television/film script translation.
My goal is to make sure that your translation needs are met and your expectations of service exceeded, whatever the project, with an exceptionally high-quality output from someone who is diligent, creative and quite the wordsmith!
Who am I
The face behind Rayon
Born in Essex and raised a Yorkshire lass, I'm now based in Newcastle upon Tyne where I work alongside the office pooch, Frankel!
The name "Rayon" has its roots in the French word for "sunbeam", as I like to think that I go through life with a positive, or "sunny", attitude and glow.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing netball, training for the odd running event, discovering new favourite restaurants and learning new recipes (current favourite: ragù with homemade tagliatelle, inspired by a cooking class attended on a recent trip to Italy).
I absolutely love my job and know that this is always reflected in the translation work I deliver!
My passion for languages was instilled at a young age when my Mum (a languages teacher) would manage to integrate singing the French alphabet into every birthday party for my brother and I. It went down a storm, believe it or not!
